Csáki György - Euro: something very good - at a very bad time?

From the 1st of January 2002, unified notes and coins of 12 European Union countries validated the euro as legal tender, excluding the ‘afterpiece’ of withdrawing national currencies from circulation – the biggest currency change has occurred in world history. The first historic era of the European Economic Community - the European Communities – the European Union has not simply been finished but has been successfully fulfilled.

Csáki György - Capital comes - and yet goes as well

The first success story of the Hungarian economic transition and the conversion of the planned ("ordered"-) market economy, is the outstanding achievement of attracting capital into the Hungarian economy. The big capital-import accomplishment in the early stages of the transition, (strictly speaking even in the period just before the transition), the total value of 2300$ of direct foreign investment per capita (which is even today two- three times higher than in the other Eastern-European countries which went through successful transition), is a success story in itself.
